Myakka River State Park

Myakka River State Park is a Florida State Park, that is located nine miles east of Interstate 75 in Sarasota County and a portion of southeastern Manatee County. The state park consists of 37,000 acres, making it one of the state's largest parks.

Deer Prairie Creek Preserve

Deer Prairie Creek Preserve is a 6,439-acre natural area with 70 miles of trail in Venice, Florida, USA, around six miles along the Myakka River. While walking the preserve’s trails, visitors will see a variety of native habitats including pine flatwoods, prairie hammock and seasonal wetlands. Portions of the trails provide scenic overlooks along the banks of the Myakka River and Deer Prairie Creek. The preserve has more than 70-miles of hiking trails, which are unpaved but accessible for most visitors. 

T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve

The Carlton Reserve has more than 80 miles of hiking trails. The 12 mile Myakka Island Wilderness Trail connects the Carlton Reserve with Myakka River State Park Reserve. Equestrian trails are provided. Purchased in 1982 for the purposes of developing a wellfield to provide drinking water for the county. 24,565-acres are set aside for natural resource protection and nature-based recreation.

Big Slough Preserve

Big Slough Preserve was formerly named Carlton Ranch. It is just east of the Carlton Reserve.  From the Carlton Reserve parking area follow the South Powerline to the east for approximately 7 miles to the fence line. There is an open gate at the fence line. The Big Slough Preserve is also accessible from North Port via the pedestrian/bicycle/equestrian bridge at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. There are 52 miles of doubletrack trails and 7 miles of singletrack trails in the Big Slough Preserve.
